Recognizing When You Need Immediate Care
Severe Toothache
A toothache that causes intense pain or swelling may indicate infection or a deeper issue that needs to be addressed right away.
Knocked-Out Teeth
If your tooth has been knocked out due to injury, immediate attention can sometimes save the tooth.
Broken or Cracked Teeth
A chipped or broken tooth can cause pain and may expose nerves, so quick care is important to avoid infection or further damage.
Loose Fillings or Crowns
Losing a filling or crown can expose sensitive areas, causing discomfort or even further tooth decay.
Soft Tissue Injuries
Injuries to your gums, lips, or cheeks from a fall or accident can cause bleeding and discomfort and require prompt treatment to prevent complications
Abscessed Tooth
An infection in the tooth root or gum that results in a pimple-like swelling on the gums can cause pain and requires quick treatment to avoid spreading.
What to Do in a Dental Emergency
Toothache
Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean it. Avoid placing aspirin or painkillers directly on the gum. If swelling is present, apply a cold compress. Call us immediately for an appointment.
Knocked-Out Tooth
If possible, try to place the tooth back in its socket. If not, store it in a glass of milk or between your cheek and gums. Time is critical, so contact us right away for the best chance of saving the tooth.
Broken or Chipped Tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Save any broken pieces of the tooth and bring them with you. Call us as soon as possible.
Lost Fillings or Crowns
Keep the filling or crown in a safe place. If the area is sensitive, use dental wax or temporary dental cement from a pharmacy until you can visit us.
Soft Tissue Injuries
Apply gentle pressure to stop bleeding using a clean cloth or gauze. Rinse your mouth with warm saltwater to cleanse the area, and then call us for an urgent appointment.
